NRa Card
MY MEMBERSHIP TO THE NRA SYMBOLIZES A LOT MORE THAN JUST A MEMBERSHIP TO A GUN INSURANCE/POLITICAL GROUP. I FEEL LIKE IT REPRESENTS QUESTIONING THE SOCIETY WE LIVE IN. I DON'T KNOW ANYONE ELSE IN MASSACHUSETTS WHO IS A MEMBER OF THE NRA. WHEN I TELL PEOPLE THIS, I GET STRANGE FACES AND QUESTIONS, BUT IF I LIVED IN SAY RURAL MAINE, I WOULD BE QUESTIONED OF WHY I AM NOT A MEMBER OF THE NRA. I SEE THIS CARD AS AN ENTRANCE TICKET TO MY PROJECT. BEING A MEMBER OF THE NRA ALLOWS ME TO HAVE A LARGER PERSPECTIVE ON MY PROJECT AS WELL AS COMMON GROUND WITH THE PEOPLE I WILL BE WORKING WITH IN MY 17 WEEKS OF RESEARCH.

F.i.d Card
InterviewsTo learn more about gun control and gun ownership, I thought it would be a good idea to learn from interviewing people. I want to hear solutions, opinions, and ideas from as many people as I can from all walks of life. I have only had three interviews, but in each one I have heard different opinions and some very unique ideas.

Now that I have my F.I.D card, I can really get my project and research going. The F.I.D card allows me to shoot at Massachusetts gun ranges without instructor supervision. As well, I will be able to purchase low capacity (under 10 rounds) rifles and shotguns once I turn 18. I do not plan on doing this, but it is a possibility. Getting this card also made me very curious about other state laws. I heard from one of my teachers that some states don't require an F.I.D to purchase firearms. For my project, I am really going to dig deep into firearm laws nation wide.

the .38 special
The .38 special is a very small concealed weapon that is one of the most common weapons used in firearm homicides each year. I plan to research this firearm extensively due to its high use in homicides and crimes. Also, this will help me narrow down my searches which will make my research much easier.
Possession
I recently checked out the federal bureau of justice to see some statistics of gun ownership, and I came across this graph. I was shocked to see that how criminals are getting guns. Seeing that 35% of people are getting them from their family or friend is a very clear indication that guns need to be in the hands of THEIR owner. Seeing these statistics will help get me on the right path to finding some solutions to reducing gun deaths in America.

saturday night special by lynyrd skynyrd
Two feet they come a creepin'
Like a black cat do And two bodies are layin' naked A creeper think he got nothin' to lose So he creeps into this house, yeah And unlocks the door And as a man's reaching for his trousers Shoots him full of thirty-eight holes Mr. Saturday night special Got a barrel that's blue and cold Ain't good for nothin' But put a man six feet in a hole Big Jim's been drinkin' whiskey And playin' poker on a losin' night And pretty soon ol' Jim starts a thinkin' Somebody been cheatin' and lyin' So Big Jim commence to fightin' I wouldn't tell you no lie Big Jim done pulled his pistol Shot his friend right between the eyes Mr. Saturday night special Got a barrel that's blue and cold Ain't good for nothin' But put a man six feet in a hole Oh, it's the Saturday night special, for twenty dollars you can buy yourself one too Hand guns are made for killin' They ain't no good for nothin' else And if you like to drink your whiskey You might even shoot yourself So why don't we dump 'em people To the bottom of the sea Before some ol' fool come around here Wanna shoot either you or me Mr. Saturday night special You got a barrel that's blue and cold You ain't good for nothin' But put a man six feet in a hole Mr. the Saturday night special And I'd like to tell you what you could do with it And that's the end of the song |
I came across this song called "Saturday Night Special" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The song references "Mr. Saturday Night Special" as a .38 or just a cheap flimsy handgun. The song emphasises how horrible these weapons are by describing them as blue and cold, and saying that they are good for nothing. The lyrics of this song are on the left.

Another youtube video
I watched some videos about trigger locks and cable locks on YouTube and it showed me how truly easy it is to prevent accidental firearm deaths. He demonstrated using a cable lock and a trigger lock, and he made it very clear that the cable lock is much more effective. If you are at all interested, check out the link here.

very questionable firearm
I was looking through my newsfeed on facebook and I came across a little demo video on a prototype gun being manufactured by Magpul Industries. This looks like a flashlight with a large handle at first, and with a press of a button it turns into a submachine gun. I found this firearms to be completely unnecessary and extremely dangerous if put into the wrong hands. Here is a YouTube link and a picture of this firearm (The Magpul FMG-9)

how does he do that?!?
While researching some tips for pistol shooting on YouTube, I came across Bob Munden, the fastest gun in the world. Check this video out. After doing a lot of practice seeing this amazes me.
